Marcel Wayne Williams, a 40-year-old African American man, is scheduled to be executed in the US state of Arkansas on 12 July 2011. He was sentenced to death in 1997 for a murder in 1994. The jury never heard compelling mitigating evidence about his background of severe abuse.
