This document comprises four focus sheets: Sexism, misogyny and homophobia: Violence against lesbians in the USA; Equal access to justice: Discrimination, the police and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (lgbt) community in the USA; Multiple identities, multiple risks: Homophobia, transphobia and racism in the USA; Human rights, human dignity: Police abuses against transgender women and men in the USA. The US authorities need to tackle: police abuses that LGBT people face; homophobia, transphobia and racism in policing; the particular risks transgender individuals face within the criminal justice system; and to stop police violence against lesbian and bisexual women.
