USA (TEXAS)Clarence LACKEY
Amnesty International very much regrets that Clarence Lackey was executed as
scheduled in Texas on 20 May 1997.
The organization is extremely concerned at the high number of executions
currently taking place in Texas. To date, 15 executions have taken place in
Texas in 1997 and at least another seven executions are scheduled for June.
Texas executes by far the highest number of prisoners in the USA; 122 executions
have taken place since the resumption of executions in Texas in 1982. The second
highest number of executions have taken place in Florida and Virginia, which
have both executed 39 prisoners since the resumption of executions in 1977.
Thank you to all those who sent appeals on behalf of Clarence Lackey. No further
action is required by the Urgent Action Network.
