Peru: High altitude prison puts prisoner’s health at risk

AI is concerned that the high altitude and inexcessiblity of the newly built Challapalca Prison is risking the health of prisoners. This prison is located between 4,500 and 5,000 metres above sea level, which is in excess of the limit considered acceptable by medical experts. AI recommends that the Peruvian authorites halt the transfer of prisoners to this prison and relocate existing inmates pending a review into prison conditions.
