Guatemala: A Summary of Amnesty International’s Concerns with regard to the Guatemalan Government’s implementation of the United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment or Punishment

In this summary Amnesty International expresses its concerns relating to torture and ill-treatment in Guatemala. The document focuses on the failure of the Guatemalan government to ensure that Articles 16, 10, 12 and 13 of the Convention are upheld. This briefing, in particular, is dedicated only to two main issues. First, the ongoing suffering of hundreds of relatives seeking justice for women who have been brutally killed in recent years. Second, forced evictions in rural areas and the subsequent suffering caused to hundreds of rural communities who have been made homeless and seen their livelihoods destroyed.
