AI is concerned for the well being of Dr Omar del Pozo, a 46-year-old physician currently serving a 15 year prison sentence in Cuba for allegedly “revealing state secrets”. AI believes that he has been imprisoned solely for his political and human rights work and has therefore adopted him as a prisoner of conscience. AI is also very concerned about his health: he is said to suffer from hypertension and although he measures six feet, is said to weigh just 90 pounds. Dr del Pozo has allegedly suffered from harsh treatment in prison. AI continues to call for his release as a prisoner of conscience.
