Cuba: Medical concern: Dr Alfredo Samuel Martinez Lara
The above-named, a 38-year-old psychiatrist, was rearrested on 10 March 1990, after he had been released, apparently conditionally, less that two weeks previously. He is a member of the Partido pro Derechos Humanos de Cuba (PPDHC), Party for Human rights in Cuba. Other members of the PPHDC were arrested with Dr Martinez but were released in September this year. He remains in State Security custody without acccess to a defence lawyer and apparently without charge. Dr Martinez is said to be suffering as a result of continuous questioning and isolation: he is known to have been hospitalized in August this year and is believed to suffer from respiratory problems.
