Colombia: Security at what cost? The Government’s failure to confront the human rights crisis.

The report, which is a follow-up to an open letter that Amnesty International sent on the day of Álvaro Uribe’s inauguration, seeks to examine some of the security measures adopted by the new government and to evaluate their impact on human rights four months after the new administration assumed office; as well as other proposals which threaten to aggravate the human rights situation in Colombia. It also highlights the organization’s concerns over government efforts to undermine the work of human rights defenders who continue to face serious threats to their lives. The report concludes with a series of recommendations to the new government.
