, Index number: AMR 23/028/2002

Amnesty International is seriously concerned for the safety of Gilberto Torres Martínez, a trade union leader who was reportedly abducted by army-backed paramilitaries on 25 February. The Autodefensas Campesinas del Casanare, (ACC), announced that they had captured Gilberto Torres Martínez and that he would face a paramilitary trial within the next 7 days. He is accused “carrying out subversive activities supporting the actions and attacks of guerrilla terrorists”. The results of the trial will be announced shortly.
