Brazil: Further information on: Fear for Safety
On 29 March, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva ratified the disputed Cerro (Ñande Ru) Marangatú indigenous area, from which the 400 members of the Guarani-Kaiowá tribe were threatened with eviction. The indigenous community in the area is celebrating and is awaiting the final formal step in the process of obtaining land rights, the registration of the indigenous area.
