Argentina: Open letter from Amnesty International to the Governor of Mendoza Province, Sr. Julio Cobos
In this letter Amnesty International writes to express its concern about information it has received concerning the situation and conditions of detention of the inmates of Mendoza Prison. The information received indicates that, at the beginning of February 2004, the prisoners presented a petition to the provincial and prison authorities listing 10 demands. The information also indicates considerable overcrowding at this prison, which has a capacity of 600, but which at the present time is housing more than 1,600 remand and convicted prisoners.
