Americas: A secure future built on human rights for all: Recommendations to states in advance of the Fifth Summit of the Americas
Heads of state and government of all countries in the Americas, except for Cuba, will gather for the Fifth Summit of the Americas in April 2009. The Summit, whose overarching theme is Securing our Citizens Future, will focus on three principal areas: promoting human prosperity, energy security and environmental sustainability. Amnesty International is calling on governments to ensure that universal human rights obligations are at the centre of the commitments they make in the Summit’s Declaration of Commitment.
