New Name: Asumani Dieudonné, NGO worker.
On 14 August 1997, Asumani Dieudonné, an administrative secretary in the office
of The Conseil régional des organisations non-gouvernmentales (CRONG), Regional
Council of Non-governmental Organizations, was reportedly arrested by soldiers.
Asumani Dieudonné is accused of having sent information to the international
community concerning the arrest of his colleagues in the organization, Bertin
Lukanda and Diomba Ramazani. He is believed to be held in Lwama military camp.
There is no further information on the cases of Bertin Lukanda and Diomba
Please continue action as specified in original EXTRA. In addition please
send telegrams/express/airmail letters in French or English or in your own
- expressing concern at the reported arrest of Asumani Dieudonné and requesting
that if he is not charged with a recognizable criminal offence he be released
- pointing out that Asumani Dieudonné is a prisoner of conscience if he was
arrested solely because he revealed information about the arrest of his
colleagues and he should be released immediately;
- seeking assurances that he is protected from ill-treatment or torture.
