Senegal: Mining and human rights in Senegal: Closing the gaps in protection

The Kédougou region of Senegal is seeing an influx of industrial mining interests and local communities have expressed concerns about the impacts of the expanding mining industry. This report examines the existing legal framework as regards key human rights issues arising within the context of industrial mining. In particular the report focuses on human rights risks associated with the relocation of communities to make way for mining projects, including forced evictions, damage to livelihoods, abuses of the rights to food and water, and the failure to properly consult those affected.
