The above named men, members of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) were charged on 13 July 1993 on six counts relating to unlawful assembly, seditious intention and seditious publication in connection with their activities on behalf of the Ogoni community. They are prisoners of conscience. Ken Saro-Wiwa, MOSOP spokesperson, and president of the Ethnic Minority Rights Organization of Africa (EMIROAF) is also believed to have a serious heart condition, and has been denied the medication and treatment that he needs. On 16 July he is believed to have twice lost consciousness in detention. Despite requests from his doctor, and an order issued by the High Court in Port Harcourt on 17 July, he has not been transferred from prison to a hospital.
