Further information on UA 42/93 (AFR 36/15/93, 18 February) - Malawi: fear of ill-treatment / legal concern: Bakili Muluzi
Bakili Muluzi, Chairman of the United Democratic Front and opposition activist, was released on bail on 18 February 1993. He has reportedly been charged with misappropriating the funds of the Malawi Congress Party in the 1970s but the real reason for his arrest and this charge would appear to be his opposition to the government and campaigning for multi-party democracy.
