Burundi: Update to "Justice on trial" Appeal Cases and new Appeal Cases on "Insurgency and counter-insurgency perpetuate human rights abuses"
This document provides an update on the Appeal Cases issued in August 1998. It also includes several new appeals which are intended to highlight to the international community the varied patterns of abuses being perpetrated against the civilian population of Burundi. These include "disappearances", attacks by armed opposition groups on camps for the internally displaced, the plight of refugees, deaths in detention and the massacre of civilians by security forces.
