Angola: Reconciliation and human rights: Amnesty International’s appeal to the new government

The Government of National Unity and Reconciliation was sworn in on 11 April 1997, and in this document, which describes some of the thousands of deliberate and arbitrary killings over the last 20 years, Amnesty International is calling for the government to set up a process to confront and deal with the killings of the past. Amnesty International is also appealing to the new government to develop a comprehensive program to protect human rights, and to introduce changes in the law and in practice to ensure that any further killings are thoroughly investigated, and that perpetrators are brought to justice.
