Update to list of abolitionist and retentionist countries August 1997
This is a list of countries which retain or have abolished the death penalty as of 8 August 1997. This list updates that of July 1997 and shows that Burundi has been removed from the list of abolitionist de facto countries since the execution of six men there on 31 July 1997.
