Death Penalty: Sentences and executions in 1999
During 1999, at least 1,813 prisoners were executed in 31 countries and 3,857 people were sentenced to death in 63 countries. These figures include only cases known to Amnesty International. A list of countries and territories where the death sentence is known to have been imposed, and where executions have been known to have been carried out, is provided.
