‘Disappearances’ in ‘the war on terror’ : Campaign Fact Sheet

This document explains Amnesty International’s campaign to stop torture in the “war on terror”. The organisation urges the reassertion of the absolute ban on torture and ill-treatment, including methods currently being described as “coercive interrogation”. “Disappearances” often go hand in hand with torture and ill-treatment and examples are included as well as comments on “disappearances” by the USA in the “war on terror”. In the document Amnesty International asks for an end to all secret and incommunicado detentions and “disappearances”, and an international treaty to protect all people from enforced disappearances.
