Putting the spotlight on armed opposition groups
This statement sets out Amnesty International's position on human rights violations by armed oppostion groups, particularly in regard to AI's campaign on political killings and "disappearances". The focus of the campaign is on the promotion of standards, which apply to governments and their opponents alike. These are that all prisoners should be treated humanely, and should not be tortured or killled; that the lives of civilians and the defenceless should be respected; and that no one should take or hold hostages.
