Amnesty International's Statute
Amnesty International's (AI) purpose and its formal accountability is set out in its Statute.
Our vision and mission
AI's vision is of a world in which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights instruments. In pursuit of this vision, AI’s mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of these rights.
Our core values
AI forms a global community of human rights defenders based on the principles of international solidarity, effective action for the individual victim, global coverage, the universality and indivisibility of human rights, impartiality and independence, and democracy and mutual respect.
AI is an organization based on worldwide voluntary membership and it consists of national branches (sections and structures), international networks, affiliated groups and international members.
The day-to-day affairs of AI are conducted by the International Secretariat headed by a Secretary General under the direction of the International Board.
