On the occasion of the United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture 2019, we would like to express our concern about grave human rights violations allegedly committed by police during the violent protest on 21-23 May 2019 in Jakarta, which followed the announcement of the general election results. Amnesty International has received credible reports of a range of violations by police, including the unlawful killing of 10 people, arbitrary arrests and detentions, and the excessive or unnecessary use of force against protesters and bystanders.
