United States of America: Human rights practice inconsistent with international standards: Amnesty International Submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review, May 2015

In this submission, Amnesty International expresses concern about counter terrorism measures, including Guantánamo Bay where dozens of detainees remain held without charge or trial and the absence of accountability for human rights violations committed during the CIA-operated programme of secret detention. Criminal justice issues continue to be of concern as does the pattern of impunity. The US capital justice system is marked by arbitrariness, discrimination and error. In addition, Amnesty International has concerns relating to life sentences for children; sexual violence against indigenous women; migrants in detention; gun violence and maternal mortality.
