Central African Republic: ‘Everything was in flames’. The attack on a displaced persons camp in Alindao

A brutal attack on a displaced persons camp in the town of Alindao, in the Basse-Kotto region of the Central African Republic, took place on 15 November 2018. An armed group called the Union for Peace in the Central African Republic (Union pour la Paix en Centrafrique, UPC) carried out the attack, together with large numbers of armed Muslim civilians. The attackers killed between 70 and 100 camp residents, including women, children, older people, and people with disabilities. UN peacekeepers stationed at the camp failed to defend against the attackers, or even fire warning shots.
