Sudan: Darfur: Threats to humanitarian aid

Tens of thousands of people in Darfur are at risk of dying for lack of humanitarian aid. Three years into the armed conflict, more than three million people depend on humanitarian assistance. The massive aid operation put in place in 2004, albeit late, has saved hundreds of thousands of lives but is now under threat. In August 2006 the access of humanitarian organizations to the civilian population fell drastically to its lowest level since 2004. Civilians directly affected by renewed conflict urgently need access to life-saving assistance.
