Russia: Human rights concerns: Briefing paper prior to the EU-Russia Human Rights consultations, October 2007

In this briefing, Amnesty International provides background information on several current key human rights issues in the Russian Federation. These include impunity for human rights violations perpetrated by state officials in the North Caucasus; deterioration of freedom of expression and assembly; the increase in violent racism; and the inadequate response to violence against women in the family. In addition, this briefing presents a list of individual cases and the organization asks for information from the authorities about the current status of investigations into these cases.
