Colombia: Second International Conference on Human Rights in Colombia – Brussels, 17-18 April 2007

This document considers the question of whether Colombia is undergoing an irreversible renaissance in which there is relative peace, rapidly decreasing levels of violence, genuine demobilization of tens of thousands of illegal combatants and justice for victims of human rights violations. Or whether, on the contrary, the nature of the humanitarian crisis has, once again, simply changed. The EU, USA and other countries should re-examine their current policies in order to ensure that their political and economic cooperation serves to strengthen the rule of law and helps to end the human rights crisis.
