Iran: Women’s rights defenders defy represssion: Jelveh Javaheri

Journalist Jelveh Javaheri was detained between 1 December 2007 and 2 January 2008 when she was released on bail but may face prosecution in the future. She was reportedly accused of “disturbing public opinion” in connection with articles she posted on the Internet. She was also among 33 women arrested on 4 March 2007 while protesting at the trial of five women’s rights activists. This case sheet calls for all charges against her to be dropped and for a review of Iranian legislation with a view to ending all legalized discrimination against women.
