Iran: Women’s rights defenders defy repression: Amir Yaghoub-Ali

Student Amir Yaghoub-Ali, a member of the Men’s Committee of the Campaign for Equality, is facing prosecution and possible imprisonment for peacefully collecting signatures to a petition demanding equal treatment for women under the law, an activity that is not legal in Iran. He was arrested in July 2007, released on bail in August 2007 and is facing prosecution. This case sheet calls for the dropping of all charges against him and for a review of the discriminatory legislation.
