Iran: Women’s rights defenders defy repression: Shadi Sadr

Shadi Sadr, a journalist and lawyer, is facing possible imprisonment for defending women on trial for organizing a demonstration in June 2006 calling for an end to legal discrimination against women in Iran. She was arrested in March 2007; released on bail after two weeks; charged in connection with her arrest in August 2007 but no verdict has yet been issued. This case sheet calls for the dropping of all charges against her; for an end to her harassment by security forces; and for a review of the discriminatory legislation.
