Iran: Women’s rights defenders defy repression: Mahboubeh Abbasgholizadeh

Mahboubeh Abbasgholizadeh, a journalist and publisher, was among 33 women arrested in March 2007 while protesting at the trial of five women charged with organizing a demonstration in June 2006 calling for an end to legal discrimination against women. She was released on bail after two weeks, charged in connection with her arrest in August 2007 but no verdict has yet been issued. This case sheet calls for the dropping of all charges against her; for an end to her harassment by security forces; and for a review of the discriminatory legislation.
