China: Legacy of the Beijing Olympics: Free Huang Jinqiu: China’s choice, your voice

Huang Jinqiu (pen name: Qing Shuijun) won a scholarship to study journalism in Malaysia. Upon his return to China, he was placed under police surveillance. Huang Jinqiu was later arrested and tried in secret as an organizer of the China Patriotic Democracy Party and sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment and four years deprivation of political rights for “subversion”. Amnesty International considers Huang Jinqiu to be a prisoner of conscience, detained for exercising his human rights to freedom of expression and association. The organization calls for his immediate and unconditional release.
