Egypt: Human rights live here – petition

On 6 September 2008 a rockslide hit Al-Duwayqa, an informal settlement in Manshiyet Nasser in east Cairo, leaving at least 107 people dead, 58 injured and many others are still missing. This petition urges the Egyptian authorities to implement a comprehensive plan that protects the residents’ lives, health and right to housing. Amnesty International also calls for an immediate end to forced evictions in the 26 ‘unsafe’ areas identified by the Egyptian government in the 2050 Greater Cairo Plan.
