Turkey: Death and torture of shepherds in Sirnak Province

On 20 July Osman Ekinci, Hasan Ekinci, Agit Ceker and Ramazan Gecgel, all shepherds, were detained by three soldiers attached to the gendarmerie post at Gorendoruk (Kurdish: Memiran). According to reports, the detainees were beaten over a period of about 13 hours. As a result of this ill-treatment, Osman Ekinci, died. His body was delivered to his fellow villagers with many traces of injury. Agit Ceker and Ramazan Gecgel were not released until 27 July, during which time they were allegedly tortured. Hasan Ekinci returned to his village in very poor condition as a result of the beatings he suffered.
