Colombia: Further evidence of army responsiblity for “disappearances”

This documents reports on evidence of military involvement in human rights abuses, including “disappearance”, torture and extrajudicial execution, which a recent sworn statement by a former military intelligence agent appears to provide. The two cases highlighted here are those of two young women, Nydia Erika Bautista de Arellana and Amparo del Carmen Tordecilla Trujillo. Amparo Tordecilla was aged 28 at the time of her “disappearance”: she was a teacher and mother of two and a member of the legal Communist Party of Colombia. She was last seen in Bogota on 25 April 1989. Nydia Erika Bautista was last seen on 30 August 1987 in the Casablanca area of Bogota: a 32-year-old economics and sociology graduate, she was unemployed at the time. Her body was found in 1990.
