Brazil: Indigenous people: Ticuna follow-up information

This document records Amnesty International’s (AI) concern about undue delays in investigating and bringing to trial the case of the killing of 14 Ticuna indigenous people and the wounding of 23 other members of the community. The attack took place on 28 March 1988 at Boca do Capacete, Benjamin Constant, Amazonas State. At the end of 1990, more than two and a half years later, the judge of Benjamin Constant indicted 13 men for the killings but, since then, the court has alleged lack of resources to inform all 13 accused of the indictment. The Brazilian Bar Association has argued since 1988 for the case to be transferred to the state capital, Manaus. A list of the names of the 14 people killed is provided.
