Israel and the Occupied Territories: Husnia ‘Abd al-Qader – administrative detention

Husnia Dawud Mahmud ‘Abd al-Qader was arrested on 9 April 1992 and later served with a six-month administrative detention order on charges (which she denies) of being active within al-Fatah. She is a resident of the Balata Refugee Camp near Nablus and is active in Palestinian womens’ committees. Husnia ‘Abd al-Qader is the only female administrative detainee in Israel and the Occupied Territories; she is held in HaSharon (Tel Mond) Prison. This is the third time she has been detained. During interrogation in incommunicado detention after her arrest, she was reportedly left one night sitting outside in the prison courtyard, hooded and shackled; her health is reportedly poor.
