Yugoslavia: Patients from Vukovar hospital arrested in November 1991 (includes update dated 15 June 1992: 10 releases)

According to reports, about 440 patients and 320 staff from Vukovar Hospital were reportedly detained by JNA troops after the fall of Vukovar on 18 November 1991. AI is concerned that 185 patients, including wounded members of the Croatian Army, and 38 auxilliary staff from the hospital are reportedly still detained at the time of writing. The Croatian authorities have established that some are detained in various detention centres in Serbia, mainly in Sremska Mitrovica and Nis prisons. The whereabouts and fate of others remains unknown; among them is Sinisa Glavasevic, a 31-year- old radio journalist who had been in hospital for treatment of wounds at the time of his arrest. Lists of the names of detainees are appended, noting, where known, the place of detention.
