Russian Federation: Vladimir Vorontsov

Vladimir Vorontsov, a carpenter, was sentenced to death in Kaluga, Russian Federation, on 2 March 1992. He had been convicted of murdering a newspaper editor and the chairman of the local building workers’ trade union and of the attempted murder of a newspaper photographer. The ITAR-TASS news agency reported that Vladimir Vorontsov had drawn up a hit list of 12 leading figures in the Kaluga Region and had described the killings as part of “the retribution for the criminal deeds of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union”.
