Turkey: Further information on Medical Letter Writing Action: Mediha Curabaz

This document updates the case of Mediha Curabaz, described in a paper issued by Amnesty International (AI) on 23 January (EUR 44/11/92). While in prison, Mediha Curabaz brought a complaint of torture against five police officers. Under the terms of a new Anti-Terror Law, her complaint was heard by the local administrative council (which is also responsible for the police). Amnesty International has now learned that this council has ruled that the case should not be prosecuted in court for lack of sufficient evidence. Mediha Curabaz has appealed to the Administrative Appeal Court in Ankara. A copy of the council’s decision is appended in English translation.
