The above-named women were released on the evening of their arrest, which followed peaceful demonstrations in protest at the cost of living. However, they are reported to have been ordered to report early each day to the security headquarters in Khartoum, where they are held until just before the evening curfew. They are apparently not being interrogated or investigated. AI considers them still to be prisoners of conscience. Day- time detention is now widely-used in Khartoum to harass suspected government opponents and restrict their freedom of movement.
