El Salvador: Medical letter writing action: death threats against AIDS worker: Wilfredo Valencia Palacios

Wilfredo Valencia Palacios, deputy director of the Oscar Romero AIDS project in El Salvador, received death threats in late October/early November. The threats were directly related to his work with the AIDS project, which conducts preventive education and health work with male and female prostitutes and transvestites in the poorer areas of San Salvador. The project believes that it has been targeted because of its work with homosexual men: the unidentified men who threatened Wilfredo Valencia Palacios are thought to be members of an anti-gay “death squad”. AI is concerned for the safety of Wilfredo Valencia Palacios and all those engaged in similar work in El Salvador.
