Turkmenistan: Further information on fear for safety and new concern: possible prisoners of conscience: anti-government demonstrators: Azhdar Amanmuradov, Alamurad Amanmuradov, Gelenov (first name unknown), Amanov (first name unknown) and up to 200 people

Up to 200 people have reportedly been detained by Turkmen law enforcement officials since the unprecedented anti-government demonstration on 12 July 1995 in Ashgabat. They include the four named above. The detainees are allegedly held in the police station in Ashgabat’s Kopet-dag district. AI believes that they may be prisoners of conscience and fears that they may be at risk in incommunicado detention.
