United Kingdom: Political killings in Northern Ireland

This report describes AI’s concerns about political killings carried out in the context of the current conflict in Northern Ireland. AI is concerned about killings by the security forces, by armed groups apparently acting in collusion with the security forces and by armed political groups, such as the Provisional IRA or Loyalist armed groups. The use of lethal force by the security forces is discussed, as are the investigative procedures followed in such cases. Abuses by the IRA, including killings, torture, punishment shootings and beatings and bombings are described, as are those of Loyalist groups.
