Colombia: possible extrajudicial execution / fear for safety: Laureano Inampue

On 6 May 1994 the body of Laureano Inampue was found in the river San Juan near the town of Ipiales, Narino department. According to eye-witness testimony, he had been forcefully abducted from his home in the Guachucal Indian Reserve, Narino department on the night of 4 May. His abductors had reportedly told his wife that the local battallion commmander wanted to interview him. However, when inquiries were made at local military and police bases, the authorities denied holding him. A forensic report is being prepared. Laureano was a well-known indigenous leader in the Pasto region, and had suffered threats and harassment in the past.
