Republic of Korea (South Korea): Arrest and ill-treatment of history professor

AI is concerned about Professor Park Chang-hee, aged 63, who was arrested on 26 April 1995 and is now in Seoul Prison awaiting trial on charges relating to national security. AI fears that he may be a prisoner of conscience, held for the non-violent exercise of his rights to freedom of expression and association. AI is also concerned about reports that he was beaten, threatened, deprived of sleep and otherwise ill-treated by ANSP officers interrogating him.
