Philippines: Noel Campilan – a “disappearance” unsolved

There is concern that a year after the “disappearance” of community health worker Noel Campilan, on 28 April 1995, there is still no indication of his whereabouts, or whether he is still alive. Noel Campilan, a 27-year-old former Christian lay minister, worked with the non-governmental Centre for Community Health Services (CCHS) in Tagum, Davao del Norte province, on Mindanao island. He was responsible for distributing traditional medecines and providing training to local people. There is concern that military personnel may have been behind his “disappearance”. Amnesty International is calling on the authorities to revive investigations and to conduct a full and impartial inquiry into his “disappearance”.
