Republic of Korea (South Korea): Summary of concerns on torture and ill-treatment

In November 1996 the United Nations Committee against Torture will examine South Korea’s Initial Report under the Convention against Torture. To assist the Committee this report gives some recent examples of torture and ill-treatment by the police and the Agency for National Security Planning (ANSP), and explains how current procedures for arrest and interrogation faciliate the use of torture and ill-treatment, highlighting the inadequacy of current remedies.
